Travelling information

Coming to Karlsruhe

by plane        You will (most probably) have a flight to Frankfurt or Stuttgart.
From there you can take a train to Karlsruhe central station. See below.
Frankfurt Airport has two railway stations. Take the one for long distance trains (Fernbahnhof).
by train Karlsruhe can be reached by long distance trains.
You can use http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en to look for connections to Karlsruhe.
by bus        The main bus station is on the southern side of the central railway station.
Go straight through the building to the northern side and take a tram (or a taxi) from there.
by car Leave Autobahn A5 at exit Karlsruhe Durlach and follow the directions to the center of the town (Stadtmitte).

In Karlsruhe

If the explanations below are not enough, you can use the interactive map of Karlsruhe to find out more.
by tram        Karlsruhe has a very good public transportation system.
Please have a look at http://www.karlsruhe.de/KVV/download/lnp/lnpnetz.pdf which shows all trams lines.

Important tram stops are

  • “Hauptbahnhof” (Karlsruhe Hbf, central railway station),
from here you can take (among others) the tram lines with numbers 2 (direction Wolfartsweier) and S4 or S41 (direction Bretten or Eppingen) to reach the following stops
  • “Marktplatz” (market place, the city center with a little pyramid): exit for Hotel Am Markt
  • “Kronenplatz”: exit for university guest house
  • “Durlacher Tor”: exit when going to the university building
  • “Tullastraße”: exit for Hotel Hasen; at the crossing go north along Tullastraße to the traffic light. Turn left into Gerwigstrße. After approx. 100 meters the hotel is on the right hand side.
on foot        Hotel Am Markt and Hotel Hasen are both within walking distance of the workshop site (10 to 15 minutes).

From Durlacher Tor to our university building you have to go 5 to 7 minutes to the north along the street “Adenauerring” (a street with two lanes in each direction).
After crossing the small street “Am Fasanengarten” the building at your right hand side already is the main informatics building.

by car When coming from Autobahn exit “Karlsruhe Durlach”: When passing the second church (a red one) on the right hand side you are arriving at Durlacher Tor. At Durlacher Tor turn to the right and immediately take the middle lane (NOT the right one). After a few hundred meters you pass under a bridge across the Adenauerring. On the right hand side you can now already see the informatics building. After approx. 150 meters there's a traffic light. Turn to the right; there's a not so small car park.
The workshop is organized by Thomas Worsch.
