Abstract:
This is a bibliography of publications in the journal IEEE Transactions on Computers (CODEN ITCOB4, ISSN 0018-9340 (print), 1557-9956 (electronic)), and its three predecessors, covering the years 1968–1999. The companion files ieeetranscomput1970.bib, ieeetranscomput1980.bib, ieeetranscomput1990.bib, ieeetranscomput2000.bib, and ieeetranscomput2010.bib cover later decades.

The journal publishing began with volume 17, number 1, January 1968, as a continuation of the earlier journal, IEEE Transactions on Electronic Computers (CODEN IEECA8, ISSN 0367-7508). That journal in turn is the continuation of IRE Transactions on Electronic Computers (CODEN IRELAO, ISSN 0367-9950, volume 4 March 1955 – December 1962), which continued Transactions of the I.R.E. Professional Group on Electronic Computers (CODEN none, ISSN none) (volume 1, December 1952 – December 1954). The later journals appear monthly. WARNING: The IEEE eXplore database is missing several issues from early journal volumes. Coverage of the last two of those journals in this bibliography is still sparse. However, coverage is believed to be complete for 1959–1969, except for the missing issue number 3 of volume EC-11 in 1962. Questionable values have been resolved by searches in the IEEE eXplore database, and by consulting original journal issues. Numerous errors in the sources noted above have been corrected. Spelling has been verified with the UNIX spell and GNU ispell programs using the exception dictionary stored in the companion file with extension .sok. BibTeX citation tags are uniformly chosen as name:year:abbrev, where name is the family name of the first author or editor, year is a 4-digit number, and abbrev is a 3-letter condensation of important title words. Citation tags were automatically generated by software developed for the BibNet Project. In this bibliography, entries are sorted in publication order within each journal, using bibsort -bypages.
